INEXPENSIVE PLANTS

Agave plant that is an important economic product of Jalisco, Mexico, due to its role as the base ingredient of tequila, a popular distilled beverage. The high production of sugars, mostly fructose, in the core of the plant is the main characteristic that makes it suitable for the preparation of alcoholic beverages. Great addition to cactus - rock gardens - ethno-botanical collections. Drought-tolerant; suitable for xeriscaping. Grows fairly fast in summer if provided with extra water.

Variegated Purple Primrose, Chinese Violet. The brightly variegated leaves of yellow and dark green, make a great contrast with the flowers. It thrives in sun or partial shade and can tolerant dry conditions, heat, humidity, salty air, and poor nutrient soils. Give this easy growing plant good drainage and medium moisture for optimum growth.
Can be used as a mass planting under large trees and borders in full sun, semi-shade or full shade. It is also a good container plant. Leaves have been eaten as spinach in India.
This ground cover thrives in semi-shade and will also grow in sunny spots if it receives adequate moisture. It can be planted in any soil in the garden, but will do better if plenty of compost is added.

Purple Prince is a medium grower with glossy green leaves with deep purple tubular flowers. It's an excellent ground cover that can be pruned into a low hedge. Dorstenia bahiensis is an interesting plant with strange looking receptacles. At maturity, seeds shoot ballistically from the mature flower/fruit heads, and they germinate readily whenever the land on soil or other moist substrate.
A quirky, shade-loving plant with glossy leaves and button-like flower discs. When ripe, those button heads pop their seeds like tiny popcorn, launching them across the yard. Compact at just 6-12 inches, it makes a playful groundcover or a fun conversation piece in a pot.

Peruvian Lily is very showy red flower that grows from tropical bulbs that are very easy to grow and bloom. They go dormant for the winter. When dormant, keep the soil slightly moist and the pot in a shady location.

Sandpaper raisin. Shows somewhat climbing growth. Small bushy shrub native to Central Africa, pretty yellow flowers. Fruits are small, brown, reportedly edible, related to the phalsa.

Bizarreness! The Ribbon Bush is a terrific, leaf-less plant from the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific with long, flattened stems resembling tapeworms - hence its nickname "Tapeworm Plant". It's hard to capture the unusual beauty of this plant in pictures. This is an awesome, offbeat plant that will get people asking: "What the heck is that??". This plant needs very little care, makes a great houseplant, and is very hard to find.

Yuca root, Cassava, Manihot, Tapioca, Manioc. A tropical root vegetable, grown as a shrub in temperate zones of Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America, that is harvested for its root and leaves. High in starch, it is a plant that contains low levels of protein in the root and high levels in the green leaves. At times, it is mistakenly referred to as Yucca, which is a non-edible plant from the Agave plant family.

Monstera adansonii (friedrichsthalii) hybrid, possibly with M. obliqua. Window Leaf. An unusual form of Monstera with smaller leaves that have many holes. Makes an interesting indoor specimen. This is a hybrid variety. There are many hybrids in cultivation between Monstera adansonii, Monstera obliqua, Monstera friedrichsthalii.
The plants we have for sale are propagated from the exact plant you see on this picture. We do not have a named hybrid for it if the type of hybrid matters to you.

Chinese Money Plant is a perfect indoor plant that is famous for its lore of attracting money into your life. It is a highly sought-after houseplant and also known as the missionary plant, lefse plant, pancake plant, UFO plant. Root Beer Plant, Acuyo, False Kava-Kava. Close relative of Piper methysticum (Kava-Kava), and Piper nigrum (Black Pepper), this herb originated from Tropical America and grows also in the South Pacific. Large-leaved perennial, known for its leaves, which are used for their spicy aromatic scent and flavor, some liken to root beer, others to anise-clove. This species is easily identified by its huge leaves which can grow over a foot long in older specimens. The leaves are chopped and used for flavoring, as well as used whole, as wrappings for meats, tamales, etc. P. auritum is very often confused with Piper methysticum (Kava-Kava), and probably has some similar effects.

Also called Solenostemon amboinicus, Allspice - Cuban Oregano. Excellent fragrant herb that is ideal in mixed containers and patio planters. Leaves are used for cooking as basil. It is often called Course Leaf Thyme. Beautiful, fragrant, strong, medicinal... there is so much good to say about this plant. Sansevieria gracilis is very rare and not common n cultivation. It has graceful, tall cylindrical leaves and delightful, intensely sweet scented flowers.

Yellow necklace pod, silverbush - Beautiful, loose growing shrub with yellow flowers that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Drought tolerant. Endangered species: the largest known population at Port Macquarie is estimated at up to 500 plants, other populations are of less than 20 plants.

The young leaves on Syngonium White Butterfly are green with white veins. At maturity, the leaf becomes about 80% white with a green border. It is a prolific grower, will vine in long days and if not grown in enough light. White Butterfly is the standard by which all other Syngoniums are measured.
