Fast growing vines

Aristolochia gigantea var. Brasiliensis is one of the most outrageous flowers in the world. This species from Brazil has huge, over ten inches in length lemon-scented flowers and exhibits an elaborate pattern of white and mottled reddish brown. Since it is not a vigorous vine, it can easily be trained on a stake, trellis or even a hanging basket. A most interesting rare collectible.

Dutchmans Pipe, Bejuco de Santiago. Pale green pitcher-shaped flowers striped tan with a long tail. Deeply lobed glossy leaves with light veins. It is quite adaptable and can be grown in subtropical areas, does well in low light conditions and can be grown indoors.

Mucuna holtonii is a species of plant in the bean family, which is pollinated by bats. Bats are able to detect if the flowers have nectar using echolocation. After an initial bat visit during which nectar is removed, the petals are arranged in a different manner (altering the shape of the flower). As a result, the unique "echo fingerprint" of petal arrangement informs the bat whether nectar is present or absent.

Grape Leaved Passion Flower. Passiflora vitifolia is a vine with cylindric stems covered in red-brown hairs when young. The name is derived from the shape of leaves resembling that of grape leaves. The flowers are a beautiful deep red. The vine is moderately hardy and can be killed back by hard freezing temperatures or prolonged frosts.
