If you need a compact, pretty flowering plant for shade garden - this is a perfect one! This handsome perennial native to Cuba, Mexico to Central America, is from Acanthus Family. It has pretty bell-shaped flowers, white with a pinking-purple lip, contrasting with dark foliage. Anyone would be happy to grow it right outside the door! It can be maintained as a low growing border plant or grow into a bush. Low water needs once established. Shade to filtered light preferable but can take full sun as well providing enough watering. Bravaisia berlandieriana is also used medicinally. Undemanding, fast growing and cold tolerant.

Super rare ginger with strawberry pink flowers. The edible flowers have pleasant, spicy fragrance and flavor. This rare specimen plant is from the collection of Mark Hooten. It has bright coral-like flowers, and finally bloomed for us in January 2025. We will be posting more pictures soon.
Species close related to Burbidgea. Riedelia coralina is so rare that published information about this species and photos are extremely hard to find. Most references to it appear in specialized collector circles rather than in widely available horticultural or botanical literature.

Winter Mexican variety is one of most cold hardy varieties, Guatemalan x Mexican origin. Mature trees may withstand temperatures in the mid 20s. Oblong fruit, 12 to 18 Oz, thick green skin, medium seed. Tree bears in December-January. Very vigorous tree, bears heavily and regularly.

Yamagata variety is very early. It ripens in Florida in March-April when no other varieties produce fruit. Fruit is large, pear-shaped, with a small seed and green skin. It is a very fine, gourmet Hawaiian avocado named for agriculture specialist Heiji Yamagata, who develeoped it. According to University of Hawaii consumer poll, Yamagata was selected as one of the best Hawaiian cultivars. Medium to low cold hardiness. Very vigorous and upright growing tree.

The Reed avocado was named after James S. Reed in California. It has been around since the late 1940's. The fruit is large, weighing over a pound and round in shape. It has a large seed, but plenty of edible flesh. The skin remains green even when ripe. It is described by some as the best tasting avocado, buttery, bold, rich and nutty with an oil content of about 20%. It is a type A avocado, but fruits consistently year after year without other avocado trees around. It has an upright growth habit and can be kept to around 15 feet with pruning. The branches do tend to droop horizontally. It is not considered a cold hardy variety and will suffer leaf damage below freezing with some damage to small branch tips at 26 degrees F. The tree flowers in May/June and the fruit is best left on the tree for over a year until the following summer all the way into October.

Super Alphonso (Zill 36-8, also known as India) is a Zill breeding selection developed from a Zill-80 seedling, with possible Jakarta parentage. Despite the name, it does not resemble Alphonso in flavor - instead, it delivers a rich, complex taste with a subtle Indian spice character layered over classic sweet mango notes. Epidendrum is a diverse neotropical genus that has flowers characterized by a frilly or fringed lip. This feature is occasionally diagnostic to distinguish between species. Grimal Jaboticaba - Peluda de Alagoas. Rare Jaboticaba introduced by Adolf Grimal. Sometimes known as the Giant Jaboticaba, it bears fruits that are larger than many Jaboticaba varieties. Has larger fruits with thick pulp and small seeds. Also notable that the fruits are mildly hairy and foliage may show a similar appearance. The trees are heavy producers, and will begin fruiting in 5 years. The tree fruits year round producing a lot of fruit.

Booth 8 is a Guatemalan and West Indian hybrid variety of avocado. It was planted extensively in the 70s by Avocado growers in South Florida. Growing to a height of 30 feet with a diameter of 20 feet, Booth 8 matures in late August through December. It has a moderate cold tolerance, is a high producer and has a mild susceptibility to scab. This variety of avocado is recommended for the home garden. It produces an oblong fruit that weighs 1 to 1 ½ pounds.

Suvarnarekha mango is also called Suvarna Sundari which in Sanskrit means Golden Beauty. This cultivar originated from Visakapatanam in Andhra Pradesh, India and is one of the most popular Indian varieties. It is also known as Chinnasuvarnarekha, Latsundar in Odisha, and Sundari in northern India. The fruit is ovate-oblong in shape, medium-sized and yellow with a jasper red blush.
