This rare plant originates from Papua New Guinea and was first described in 1913. The flower is very fragrant and can infuse your entire house in a beautiful lilac scent. This vigorous grower makes a perfect houseplant with velvety leaves and fragrant white flowers sporting red centers. Each flower is almost 1" wide and they are borne in clusters that appear when the day length shortens in fall and winter. It can be grown in a pot with a trellis or in a hanging basket. The sweet scent of the flowers fills the air when Hoya calycina is in bloom.

Satin Pothos, Silk Pothos, Silver Philodendron. It is cultivated for satiny dark green juvenile leaves which are heart-shaped with irregular silver spots. Medium to large tree, rare in cultivation. Flowers in very striking terminal racemes, resembling the inflorescences of Aloe, scarlet-red. Seeds bright red with a white spot. The flowers of this species are larger and more spectacular than any other Erythrina species.

This is a rare hybrid possibly with A. scabra (panamensis) that has bright red flowers, quite unique flowering plant from S America. Like all aphelandras, it has showy flowers that are loved by hummingbirds. The flower up to 2 inch long, tubular. They are 2-lipped, fuzzy and they bloom for one day before wilting. Inflorescence is candle-like and the prepubescent flower spikes can grow up to 6 inch in height. The inflorescence has overlapping green bracts that are tinged with yellow and orange and they have extrafloral nectaries. Each day only one or two flowers open along the inflorescence to prevent self-pollination.
