Is Ugly Betty mango ugly or awesome?
A note from our customer
"...Hello my name is Gary, I bought your Ugly Betty Mango tree a little over a year ago. When I saw your photo I thought to myself why are they calling this mango ugly Betty? It doesn't look ugly at all to me. It was a deep yellowish orange with a little red to it round so what is so ugly about it? Once the fruit started developing on my tree I thought - now I understand, it's such an odd shape! However, it looks nothing like your photo and personally I thought this mango should be called Awesome Mango! I did not find it ugly at all. Here's a photo of what you call an ugly mango Betty..."

Choosing the right Mango for your garden
Q: Do the mango trees you sell already have fruit? Or how long does it take to get fruit? Are they tricky to keep up? I live locally and have been interested in getting a few!
A: Some
of our mangos in both 3 gal and 7 gal pots have fruit on
them. All our mango trees are grafted which means they are
ready to produce fruit. So if not the same year, you
should get fruit the next year.
Mangoes in general are easy to grow plants. They are not
picky about soil and water, however they need full sun for
fruiting. When you are lucky to live in tropical or
subtropical climate, your mango will thrive in a ground,
and within 2-3 years you will have a mature tree, and a
crop every year (those who have cold winters, still can
grow a mango tree in a pot, and move it indoors for colder
period). Visit our garden center for a tour of our Mango
Gardenthat is only 3 years old and is full of fruit!
Tasting table available :) We offer over 100 varieties,
and our experts can help you to make the right choice for
your garden. To start your own mango tree collection,
depending on space available, you may begin with the
following varieties:
Nam Doc Mai - one of the most
popular and delicious Asian mango
Carrie - very compact
grower, reliable producer with great taste
Cogshall and Ice Cream - dwarf varieties
for small yards, excellent taste
Alphonso - considered one of
the best tasting

🥭 10 steps: how to grow a mango tree?
Follow these steps and you'll be on your way to growing a healthy mango tree and enjoying delicious fruit:
1. ❗️ Choose the right variety that suits your needs and yard. See earlier posts:

10 Dwarf "Condo" Mango
5 large and vigorous Mango varieties
2. 🌳 Buy a grafted tree from a reputable nursery to ensure better fruit quality and faster fruiting.
3. 🏡 Planting site: choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Ensure there is enough space for the tree to grow, as some varieties can become quite large.
4. ⛏️ Planting: dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Mix in organic compost to enrich the soil. Place the tree in the hole, making sure the growth point is 1-2"above the soil line. Fill the hole with soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets. Water the tree thoroughly.
5. 💦 Watering: Water the tree regularly, especially during the first few weeks. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
6. Mulch: apply mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot.
7. Fertilize: use a balanced fertilizer formulated for fruit trees. We recommend Sunshine Boosters Mango Tango formulated specially for mango trees.
8. ✂️ Prune to shape the tree to encourage good airflow and sunlight penetration, and to improve the yield.
.
9. 🕷 Pest and disease control: monitor for scale and mealybugs and treat them with systemic pesticides. Keep an eye out for fungal diseases and treat them promptly with copper spray.
10. 🥭 Harvesting: Mangoes are ready to harvest when they change color and soften slightly.

🥭 Truth about which fruit helps you lose weight faster: Mango or Papaya?
❓ Mango vs. Papaya: what's best for you?
✔️ Nutritional comparison
Papaya brings more folate and contains papain, an enzyme that aids digestion.
✔️ Health perks
Papaya is known to ease digestion, reduce bloating, and support gut health.
✔️ Calories and sugars
If you’re sugar-sensitive, papaya might be the better option.
✔️ Weight loss support
This helps you feel fuller longer, which can reduce snacking and support weight management.
✔️ Which to pick when
Choose mango for a skin and immune boost.
Go with papaya if you want a gentler fruit that supports digestion and gut comfort.
Don't forget about Avocado when planting your fruit garden!
Avocado deserves a spot at the table too. While not sweet like mango or papaya, it's packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and B vitamins. Avocado supports brain and heart health, keeps you full longer, and provides a creamy balance to any tropical fruit plate.
All three fruits are also great for weight management. They're high in fiber and water content, which slows digestion, helps you feel fuller longer, and may reduce overall calorie intake naturally.
