This Pigeon Pea variety called Fuerte (meaning "strong"), was brought to Florida by a family from Holguin, Cuba, several decades ago. There, it is considered to be be the finest of many cultivars which are widely cultivated.
True to its name, it is the largest, strongest, most long lived, and most productive variety we have trialed. Also, it regularly produces pods with more and larger beans than any other. This is a vastly improved variety, and likely one of the documented polyploid cultivars. Highly recommended!

Showy Zephyrlily, Fairy Lily, Rain Lily. These spectacular rain lilies bloom often a few days after rainstorms thus one of the common names, Rain Lily. They are found in the coastal prairies and wet roadsides of eastern Texas and Gulf Coast Louisiana. The leaves grow through the winter and spring and die off in summer; flowering occurs in autumn. The vigorously multiplying clumps flower for us from late summer into fall.

Our resident botanist/horticulturist, Mark Hooten, recently made and registered a unique Hibiscus hybrid which we at Top Tropicals are very happy to make available to the world. This is a first time offering anywhere!
This is an admittedly an unusual Hibiscus hybrid. It involves a parent species never before registered as being used as a parent for any Hibiscus hybrid in the past. In-fact, the International Hibiscus Society didn't even have a database for it, so it had to be added to their registry.
The hybrid involved taking the pollen of the spectacular H. schizopetalus from the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro (Coral Hibiscus), and using it for pollinating a flower of the rare, virtually unknown but elegant and tiny Madagascan H. grandidieri. This hybrid, which Mark Hooten registered under the name Fairy Dancer, was the result: "My knowledgeable, Hibiscus loving friends assure me that this is a most wonderful hybrid to come along for a very long time, and that I should be proud to offer it to the world."
This wonderful outcome was totally unexpected. The small, almost tiny, deeply lobed leaves unlike those of any other Hibiscus hybrid, resemble those of certain mulberries or figs. They grow from arching stems, from which a nearly constant display of bright red-fuscia flowers dangle on long, thread-like stems, making them appear suspended in air at a distance.

White Fig. Ficus virens found in India, southeast Asia, through Malaysia and into Northern Australia. It is locally known as Pilkhan or Manbornde. Like many figs, fruit are edible. This is a very massive tree in which the size of the crown can sometimes exceed the height of the tree. However, it will take many years and generations to grow to that size... It makes a great bonsai as most of the fig trees.
One of the most famous specimens of this tree is the Curtain Fig Tree of the Atherton Tableland, near Cairns, a popular tourist attraction.

Showy, variegated formThe Lucky Bamboo Plant which is an extremely popular houseplant and candidate for some aquariums, terrariums, and paluadariums. It is not actually closely related to bamboo grass, although its common name comes from its resemblance to bamboo grass. While not a true aquatic plant, the Lucky Bamboo Plant is extraordinarily popular and can often be applied to aquarium, terrarium, and paludarium setups! It should be positioned upright with its leaves clearly out of the water. There isn't really a well known reason for how this common name came about, although Dracaena sanderiana grows easily in water and the canes of the plant have a similar appearance to real bamboo stalks, it has no true connection with Japanese culture.

Spectacular, large-flower variety that flowers twice a season, 'New Deal' is a remarkable "Christmas cactus" hybrid, completely lost to the trade today, which is being offered here for the first time after it was originally offered for purchase at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over 80 years ago. That institution was having a special rare plant sale on the day of the famous presidential election on November 8, 1932, when F.D.R. was historically voted in as the next American president. Not only is New Deal an exceptionally obscure, heirloom cultivar especially easy to grow under average house plant conditions, it reliably produces almost an overabundance of brilliant violet-pink and white flowers which are easily an inch larger than any other variety. The plants we are offering are all 3rd generation vegetative propagation from an original specimen (still alive btw). Its name is identical to President Franklin D. Roosevel main campaign slogan.
You could call Schlumbergera New Deal a long-blooming holiday cactus or a Thanksgiving-to-Easter cactus, since it often flowers first around Thanksgiving and Christmas, then produces a second flush closer to Easter.

Alocasia cuprea is an utterly stunning dwarf Alocasia. They also go by the name jewel Alocasia or mirror plant. The leaves are out of this world with their shiny surface and metallic appearance. What is the longest Anthurium?

Sedum kamtschaticum (Orange Stonecrop, Phedimus kamtschaticus) is one of those plants that practically takes care of itself. This tough little succulent quickly forms a colorful, weed-suppressing carpet just 4-6 inches tall, covered with bright yellow star-shaped flowers in late spring and summer. As the weather cools, the foliage turns beautiful shades of orange and red, keeping the display going long after the blooms fade. It loves full sun, thrives in rocky or sandy soil, laughs at drought once established, and is perfect for rock gardens, borders, stone walls, slopes, or spilling over containers. If you're looking for an easy, low-maintenance groundcover that looks great year after year, Orange Stonecrop is a winner.

This crazy little cactus makes a wonderful hanging basket specimen and quite the conversation piece with its twisted, arching limbs. A night bloom epiphytic cactus with curly twisting leaves, Epiphyllum curly locks is an example of a cactus that uses its stems to capture more moisture and light. The plant has curly, curved stems which are the result of a mutation of a plant called Epiphyllum guatemalense. The name for this mutated cactus is Epiphyllum monstrosa - a jungle cactus native to Guatemala and will attach itself to a tree and live off of the composting debris that collects in the crook of the tree. Commonly called Orchid Cactus due to the blooms resembling orchid blossoms. The flowers are fragrant and usually open at night. Oval, bright pink seedy fruits form once blooms are pollinated. These fruits are juicy and edible. The plant is also self-pollinating and fruits can form even without the intervention of insects and mammals.
Epiphyllum are sensitive to being moved so choosing spot in bright, indirect light would work best. Epiphyllum will also only bloom when root bound, so take this into consideration when repotting.

Climbing by attaching its roots to the host tree, this epiphyte can reach a height 9 ft. It has pendent stems, and small button-like, silver-grey leaves. This little vine has cute little coin shaped leaves. It can be grown as a hanging basket or pot, or on moss or bark. It likes bright light but not direct sun over the plant. The mix needs to be kept moderately dry between waterings. They don't like too much water and misting the plant once or twice a week should do the job. Liquid feeding once a month with half strength is adequate. It is also good for terrariums.

Eversweet, sweet even before fully ripe! Eversweet is one of the sweetest pomegranate varieties available and a favorite for fresh eating. Unlike most pomegranates, even immature fruit is pleasantly sweet with almost no tartness, making it an excellent choice for cooler or coastal climates where fruit may not always fully ripen.
The medium to large fruit has bright red skin and unique clear, non-staining juice. The arils are exceptionally sweet with soft, nearly seedless edible seeds, making them perfect for snacking, salads, desserts, and juicing without staining hands or clothing.
The tree grows into a graceful 8-10 ft shrub with arching branches but can easily be trained as a small tree or espalier. It produces an abundance of large orange-red flowers over an extended blooming season, often beginning to flower and fruit at a very young age. Self-fertile and highly productive, Eversweet performs best in full sun but tolerates light shade. Once established, it is very drought tolerant, adaptable to most well-drained soils, and suitable for both landscape planting and large containers.

Satin Pothos, Silk Pothos, Silver Philodendron. It is cultivated for satiny dark green juvenile leaves which are heart-shaped with irregular silver spots. Light green foliage is spotted with silvery, reflective variegation. The heart-shaped leaves are velvety to the touch and matte in texture, which has led this plant to have the common names Philodendron Silver and Satin Pothos (though botanically it is neither Philodendron nor Pothos). Eventually, its vines grow quite long, making Scinapsus pictus a great choice for hanging planters.

Introduced at the 2000 International Aroid Society meeting in Florida, this dazzling elephant ear became the most wanted plant at the meeting. Emerging solid green, the 25" wide light green leaves begin turning butter cream-yellow along the center. The color then pours down into the main vein creating a huge bold Y-pattern in the center of the leaf. Color then bursts into the lateral (side) veins and begins its march to the margins. Coloring starts in spring, shortly after the first leaves mature. It sends out lots of side stolons which will root into the soil where moisture is adequate. The more moisture the larger the plant will grow.
Colocasia White Lava is similar to Colocasia Nancys Revenge but White Lava produces glossy red petioles whereas Nancys Revenge has green petioles.

Fast growing but rather compact shrub with velvety leaves and stems. Bright yellow flowers. Ethnomedical plant. Easy to grow and not picky about conditions. Full sun and regular water is all it needs.

Sansevieria gracilis is very rare and not common n cultivation. It has graceful, tall cylindrical leaves and delightful, intensely sweet scented flowers.

Day avocado is green, smooth skin and is shaped like a club. The fruit is of very good quality and has a nice buttery consistency. The slender tree is very cold tolerant and produces July through September.
