Mangosteen. This delicious fruit has a thick, dark-red skin, inside which are creamy white segments with a sweet, slightly tart flavor. Purported by many who have had the luxury of tasting it as being the best tasting fruit in the world.

Hibiscus mutabilis - Kristi's Cotton Candy. Confederate Rose, Cotton Rose, Common Rose Mallow. The flowers open pure white and change color over a three-day period until they are deep pink and then as they die assume a dark "blue-pink" hue. The most notable characteristic of this flowering shrub is that flowers of three distinct colors appear on the bush simultaneously as the blooms color cycle independent of one another. This shrub thrives on regular watering but this is optional as it is very drought tolerant.

Cecropia is a very showy tree with spreading crown and large leaves up to 24 inches wide with silver-white lower surfaces. Cylindrical, soft-flesh fruit are drooping in clusters resembling octopus. They are very tasty - sweet, watery, aromatic.

Soncoya, Toreta, Ilama. Medium-sized tree with a trunk that usually branches fairly low. The fruit pulp is very good but not marketed. In Colombia, the pulp is eaten raw or is strained for juice, drunk as a beverage or folk remedy. In Mexico, Soncoya juice is regarded as a remedy for fever and chills.

Golden Flamboyant, Yellow Poinciana, African wattle, weeping wattle. Small to medium-size semi-deciduous to deciduous tree. An excellent garden shade tree, beautiful in flower. Great plant for bonsai. This variety starts flowering at young age, in 3 gal pot.

A fiberless selection from Central America having firm, juicy flesh. Excellent and can easily be kept small.

Cassia cinnamon, Chinese cinnamon. This variety of cinnamon has elongated leaves which are highly aromatic as much as bark that is used for commercial cinnamon. Leaves are used as tea. Cinnamon is a very popular culinary spice and is also used in candy, gum, incense, toothpaste and perfumes. The oil is used in medicine as a carminative, antiseptic and astringent and source of cinnamon extract. Cold hardy plant to upper 20's F.

Katuk, Tropical Asparagus. Delicious young shoots! It is one of the most popular leaf vegetables in South Asia and Southeast Asia and is notable for high yields and palatability. The shoot tips have been sold as tropical asparagus. In Vietnam, people cook it with crab meat, minced pork or dried shrimp to make soup. In Malaysia, it is commonly stir-fried with egg and dried achovies. It is among only a few flora containing vitamin K.

Carambola variety Sri Kembangan - Thai variety with elongated fruit, 5-6 inches long, bright yellow-orange flesh, very sweet and juicy. Firm flesh and few seeds make it excellent dessert fruit.
Small symmetrical tree. Fruits very prolifically. Fruit is star-shaped when cut across the middle. It has a sweet, watery, slightly acid, pleasant tasting pulp. Eaten fresh, in salads, as garnishes, in drinks or preserved. Mature trees may survive light frost but young trees must be protected from frost and especially - wind. The plant will fruit in container even when in small size (2-3 ft). Season: August - March.

Nishikawa avocado originated in Hawaii, with B-type flowers. It has a very rich, creamy, nut flavor with good oil content. This variety likes Florida climate.

Yamagata variety is very early. It ripens in Florida in March-April when no other varieties produce fruit. Fruit is large, pear-shaped, with a small seed and green skin. It is a very fine, gourmet Hawaiian avocado named for agriculture specialist Heiji Yamagata, who develeoped it. According to University of Hawaii consumer poll, Yamagata was selected as one of the best Hawaiian cultivars. Medium to low cold hardiness. Very vigorous and upright growing tree.

Double Red is a classic tropical hibiscus known for its rich, velvety red flowers and continuous bloom. Each blossom is fully double, made up of many overlapping petals that form a lush, ruffled bloom about 4 inches across. This variety is one of the most dependable and easy-to-grow tropical hibiscus types. It flowers freely through the warm months and can bloom almost year-round in frost-free climates. Double Red grows into a dense, rounded shrub about 4-6 ft tall and 3-4 ft wide. It's ideal for hedges, accents, or large containers on patios and pool decks. Plants perform best in full sun with regular watering and rich, well-drained soil. Feed monthly during the growing season to encourage continuous flowering.
This time-tested hibiscus is a true garden classic, combining vivid color, strong growth, and reliable performance. Its full, double blooms and intense red tone make it one of the most popular hibiscus varieties ever introduced.
In TopTropicals garden this variety showed pretty strong cold tolerance (at least to light freeze) similar to cold hardy H. syriacus. It is often referred to as H. Althea, H. Amplissimus (referring to double flower), and Double Rose of Sharon. This variety is also known under names: Red Hot, President, Red Dragon, Super Red.

Carambola (Starfruit) var Arkin. One of the leading commercial cultivars with 4-5" long fruit with small wings. Bright yellow to yellow-orange skin and flesh. Flesh is firm, very sweet, and juicy with few seeds.

Mexican Bird of Paradise (Dwarf poinciana)- a showy shrub with fragrant flowers for a small yard or container. Drought tolerant, cold hardy to light freeze.
Plant seeds in 1/2" depth of well drained soil mix. Keep warm, damp and in bright light.

Weeping red Bottlebrush. Callistemon citrinus (Melaleuca citrina). Medium size tree with arching or weeping stems and showy bright red flowers. Cold tolerant, drought resistant. Fast growing, great solution for privacy planting.

Giant granadilla. Fast growing vine which can grow over 50ft in a single season. Fruit forms best after self-pollination. Fruit is eaten fresh or used in drinks. The unripe, green fruit is eaten as a vegetable.
Cover seeds with 1/2" well-drained soil mix, keep warm, damp (not wet) and in bright light.

Sapodilla Oxkutzcab (or Ox) - "gigantic sapodilla" - is originally from Oxkutzcab (Yucatan). Extremely large (up to 28 oz), roundish fruit with speckled, light-colored skin. Flesh is brown, with excellent taste. Heavily productive tree. Producing heavy crops from May to September.

Firewheel Tree. The dark, glossy green leaves may be entire or lobed and up to 1.5 ft long. The spectacular "firwheel" flower clusters are seen in summer through to autumn. Despite its sub-tropical to tropical origin, S.sinuatus is adaptable to a range of climates and will even succeed in dry climates if additional water is available.

Jamaica Tea flower (Karkade, Roselle) - "Agua de Flor de Jamaica", also called agua de Jamaica and rosa de Jamaica, is popular in Jamaica, Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America and the Caribbean. It is one of beverages made from fresh juices or extracts. It is served chilled, and in Jamaica this drink is a tradition on Christmas, served with fruit cake or potato pudding.
In Panama both the flowers and the drink are called saril (a derivative of the Jamaican word sorrel).
In the United States, hibiscus tea was popularized as "Red Zinger". Flowers are used to make a cold or hot tea sweetened with sugar. There has been some Medical studies which indicate that it lowers high blood pressure and also has diuretic effects. The flavor is on the tart side similar to a cranberry juice. In Mexico, it is also used for granites, ice pops and sangria.

This is the one of most useful trees in the world - Olive tree, originated in Mediterranean. This particular cultivar has found great flavor in Florida as a backyard banana because of its ability to reliably produce fruit with a minimum of care by the homeowner. Cavendish are the most common variety of bananas grown by the hobbyist. The variety is very hardy and produces very large heads of fruit. The dwarf variety, which grows to 8 feet, is the most common backyard variety. The fruit is excellent tasting and can remain on the plant until ripe.
