AVOCADO 7 GAL

Bernecker is a West Indian variety. Fruit is ellipsoid-spheroid; medium to large size, 14-22 oz, skin light green to green, smooth, flesh good to excellent quality; seed medium size, tight in cavity; harvested late July through August.

BETA is the workhorse of mid-season avocados. The tree has a rounded dense canopy, and it consistently puts out 200-300 bushels per acre. Fruits are 1-1.5lbs. Season is from July - September.

The Story says: "Catalina is an amazing avocado floated across from Cuba, 60 years ago just before Fidel Castro took over the Island Nation. Wise Cubans jumped into the ocean to escape the Castro regime and tossed in some favorite scions for us to enjoy here in the States. We owe a great debt to poor old Don Miguel Cruz de la Santa Maria Espinoza Sanchez Alvarez Jr. who sadly was lost at sea. His amazing scion wood, wrapped in cellophane and aluminum foil floated over, washing a shore on Miami Beach. His shiny little package was miraculously picked up on the shoreline and immediately grafted and cared for by keen eyed avocado lovers in Miami". So be sure to think about this story every time you eat a Catalina!
Catalina is a very nice mid-season pear shaped fruit that is especially rich and creamy. It is extremely popular variety in South Florida in the Cuban Community.

Day avocado is green, smooth skin and is shaped like a club. The fruit is of very good quality and has a nice buttery consistency. The slender tree is very cold tolerant and produces July through September.

Avocado Doni. A large tree with with smooth green fruits of medium size. It is relatively cold hardy, with a fruiting season from May-June.

Loretta is a huge mid-season avocado, usually ripening in August. It has great production and consistency. It is a type A flower with fruit up to 2.5 lbs.

Miguel Avocado is B Flower, Guatemalan-West Indies Mix. The variety has a decent crop, very productive, averaged 275 lbs per tree. A good looking fruit. Never any disease on the tree and fruit, it stays very clean.

Monroe inherited from its Guatemalan-type parent some degree of cold hardiness. In addition, the trees produced a large, elliptical-shaped fruit with good eating qualities and were good producers. These traits helped establish Monroe as a commercial cultivar in Florida. Legend has it that "it was found in Homestead, Florida on a cool dark rainy night after a meteor crashed into an abandoned papaya plantation."

Oro Negro means black gold in Spanish, which is an incredibly appropriate name for this fruit. It originates from Miami-Dade County, Florida and has great potential for dooryard or commercial use. It is likely a Monroe seedling having a similar shape and season, but probably crossed with a Mexican type which would explain the black skin. The flesh is rich and buttery with a creamy texture that is sure not to disappoint.

Russel is easily recognized by its gourd like shape. The fruit and therefore the tree are very popular among the Latin communities of South Florida. Light production discourages commercial growers, but it remains an excellent choice for the enthusiast. Large fruit, 24-36 Oz. Long fruit up to 13 inches. Red skin, flesh yellow, sweet, excellent quality. Seed small, cavity low in the broad end of the fruit, often a solid neck of flesh 5-6 inches long. It is NOT a cold hardy variety!

Russell Avocado. The Russell is easily identifiable by it's long gourd-like shape. It's smooth buttery flavor makes it one of Florida's most popular dooryard varieties, especially within Latin communities.

Tonnage is a classic avocado on the outside, with a pear-shaped figure and frog-green pebbly skin and a slender neck leading to the stem. Tonnage stands out when tasted for it is remarkably sweet!
Guatemalan; fruit medium size, oil content 8-10%; seed medium, fairly tight in cavity; harvested August to late September.

Winter Mexican variety is one of most cold hardy varieties, Guatemalan x Mexican origin. Mature trees may withstand temperatures in the mid 20s. Oblong fruit, 12 to 18 Oz, thick green skin, medium seed. Tree bears in December-January. Very vigorous tree, bears heavily and regularly.

Yamagata variety is very early. It ripens in Florida in March-April when no other varieties produce fruit. Fruit is large, pear-shaped, with a small seed and green skin. It is a very fine, gourmet Hawaiian avocado named for agriculture specialist Heiji Yamagata, who develeoped it. According to University of Hawaii consumer poll, Yamagata was selected as one of the best Hawaiian cultivars. Medium to low cold hardiness. Very vigorous and upright growing tree.

New rare variety Ulala (Uhlala, Uh-La-La, Super Hass). Cold hardy variety that can take temperatures down to 18F for short period of time without significant damage. The fruit is black skinned, with smooth texture. Seed is very small.

Avocado Wurtz is dwarf hybrid. It is very compact and slow growing, reaching only about 10-15 feet at maturity. Great for dooryard or container growing. The tree can handle temperatures to 25(F) degrees. Fruit is thin-skinned, 10-12 oz. The seed is small and fruit skin is smooth.
Fruits ripen green from May to September. The flavor is very good. Production is good and it is a consistent bearer.
