This Pigeon Pea variety called Fuerte (meaning "strong"), was brought to Florida by a family from Holguin, Cuba, several decades ago. There, it is considered to be be the finest of many cultivars which are widely cultivated.
True to its name, it is the largest, strongest, most long lived, and most productive variety we have trialed. Also, it regularly produces pods with more and larger beans than any other. This is a vastly improved variety, and likely one of the documented polyploid cultivars. Highly recommended!
Pigeon Pea is popular food in developing tropical countries. Nutritious and wholesome, the green seeds (and pods) serve as a vegetable. Pigeon Pea is hardy, widely adaptable, and more tolerant of drought and high temperatures than most other crops.

An exceptionally distinct pepper, it is likely an ancient hybrid of Capsicum annuum (bird pepper) and Capsicum chinense (habanero group).
While of small size (something around an inch or so long), these oddly shaped bright orange to finally red fruits are prolifically produced along the branches of compact plants with small leaves.

Passiflora coccinea, or Red Passion Flower, is a tropical, evergreen vine from South America known for its stunning scarlet-red flowers and edible passion fruits. It thrives in full sun or part shade with fertile, well-drained soils and can grow up to 10-12 feet long. This easy-to-grow plant is perfect for trellises, walls, and containers, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. Minimal pruning is needed, and it blooms primarily in summer and fall.

Passiflora nitida (Bell Apple) is a tasty, but relatively unknown passion fruit native to the Amazon jungle region. This is a rare, really delicious fruit which is much sweeter than any passion fruit. It grows in the tropical lowlands from Costa Rica in the north and French Guiana in the northeast, through wide parts of Brazil. It is similar to P. laurifolia, with orange-yellow fruits that have a sweet, succulent pulp. It is a fast-growing tropical vine. Its flowers are blue and red, a bit like P. laurifolia and P. quadrangularis. The fruits grow up to 2 in. It is tropical and should be protected from frost. The fruits are eaten fresh and very sweet, with no acid, yet very good in flavor. Passiflora nitida is also a useful fruit in a drink called Purple Passion.

Neea, Saltwood, Pigeon Plum, Hoja de Salat. Rare in cultivation, this small tree or bush should get more attention from tropical plant collectors.The plant is very nice, easy growing and make those "jelly beans" like berries at least twice/year. The flowers are almost unnoticeable. The berries are very showy and come right after. It fruits for several months non stop. Mature fruit is edible. In its native countries, this plant is widely used medicinally. From book "Messages from the Gods. A Guide to the useful plants of Belize": "To treat babies who can not sleep, often accompanied with crying, especially when they have been frightened by chickens..." Very useful plant especially for those who are afraid of chickens!

Carambola, local Florida variety Possum Gold large, round fruit, very sweet and juicy.
Small symmetrical tree. Fruits very prolifically. Fruit is star-shaped when cut across the middle. It has a sweet, watery, slightly acid, pleasant tasting pulp. Eaten fresh, in salads, as garnishes, in drinks or preserved. Mature trees may survive light frost but young trees must be protected from frost and especially - wind. The plant will fruit in container even when in small size (2-3 ft). Season: August - March.
