Canary Tree. Sometimes listed as Bakeridesia integerrima, Canary Tree is a showy and handsome small tree growing about 10 ft tall, with evergreen, broadly heart-shaped leaves. They are pubescent with stellate hairs and are rough to the touch on the upper surface. The flowers are 2-3" across and resemble those of a hibiscus. The five petals are bright yellow, each with a reddish blotch at the base. It is an excellent tree for container culture or for a small garden, doing best with full sun and good drainage. It has a long winter span, and blooms are attractive to bees and butterflies.

Red Maple is a fast growing tree, best known for its brilliant deep scarlet foliage in December-January in Florida and autumn elsewhere. It is is adaptable to a very wide range of site conditions. It can be found growing in wet sites, swamps, on poor dry soils, and most anywhere in between. Due to its attractive fall foliage and pleasing form, it is often used as a shade tree for landscapes. In Florida it grows much shorter than in colder region, reaching 20-40 ft.
This plant is grown from seed collected in Florida, so it is suited for planting in Florida. It may perform worse up North.

This very different dwarf palm from South America, has attractive spines all over it and fabulous, gracefully arching leaves, covered with white powder, with long, wavy, closely- spaced leaflets. A solitary, showy spiny small tree. In the wild it grows 9-15 feet tall with a stem diameter of 2-4 inches. Avocado Wurtz (Little Cado) is a dwarf hybrid. It is very compact and slow growing, reaching only about 10-15 feet at maturity. Great for dooryard or container growing. The tree can handle temperatures to 25(F) degrees. Fruit is thin-skinned, 10-12 oz. The seed is small and fruit skin is smooth.
Fruits ripen green from May to September. The flavor is very good. Production is good and it is a consistent bearer.

Not just leaves - this banana bears red fruit too! This Bordelon ornamental banana was first discovered in the Zone 8b Louisiana town of Bordelonville (near Alexandria).
