Short or medium sized tree, rare in cultivation. In Aztec (or Mayan) language this fruit is called Xox (X sounds like tz). Common name Cinnamon apple is probably referring to the color of the skin. The fruit is creamy, mild flavored, slightly sweet. The texture is granular, and the flesh is somewhat milky with coarse graininess - like some types of pear only larger grit size similar to a seeded grape but not unpleasant. Not at all like Pouteria campechiana (egg fruit) which is rich and pasty like egg yolk but sweeter, like a very sweet potato or a dense custard.

The fruit has unique medicinal and nutritional values.

Great for milkshakes and other recipes, and it can fruit in a pot for years.

The tree is hardy to 28F once established.
