Geogenanthus ciliatus is a perennial plant, forming a mat of growth about 15cm tall. A terrestrial herb in primary rain forest it is a medium to large sized terrarium plant.

The top surface of the leaves are glossy and dark green, whereas the bottom of the leaves are velvety, dark-purple.
