The Hibiscus schizopetalus is a charming, fast-growing shrub, native to the tropical east coast of Africa and adapted to warmer climates. A mature plant can reach between 5-8 ft tall and has a spread of 5 to 6 feet. Its slender stems are gracefully curved and the explosion of flood-like parachute petals, bended backward and with fringed and lacy structures, are sure to make any garden pop! Once established, Hibiscus schizopetalus is drought tolerant and can thrive in full sun or semi-shade conditions. Moist soil, however, is essential to keep it thriving. Regular pruning is necessary to keep the desired form and encourage a wealth of blooms that appear year-round.
