Amorphophallus konjac is one of the largest flowers, a perennial exotic Asian plant. It grows a single, elongated center called a corm and a single large leaf that wraps around it. Chinese ginger, Fingerroot. Boesenbergia rotunda is a medicinal and culinary herb from China and Southeast Asia. It is widely used in Javanese cuisine in Indonesia. In Thai cooking it is called krachai. In the west it is usually found pickled or frozen. Kra Chai is used as an antiflatulent, expels air and nurtures strength. Used as a male tonic, vigor, health promotion, longevity, aphrodisiac.

This Pigeon Pea variety called Fuerte (meaning "strong"), was brought to Florida by a family from Holguin, Cuba, several decades ago. There, it is considered to be be the finest of many cultivars which are widely cultivated.
True to its name, it is the largest, strongest, most long lived, and most productive variety we have trialed. Also, it regularly produces pods with more and larger beans than any other. This is a vastly improved variety, and likely one of the documented polyploid cultivars. Highly recommended!

Jamaica Caper Tree, Mustard Tree. Jamaica caper produces large quantities of flowers with white petals and many purple stamens, which extend beyond the petals. Fruit are slender, rust-colored pods which split open to expose orange-red seeds. The dense, strong Jamaica caper is very wind resistant and extremely salt tolerant.

This is a rare understory palm from Vanuatu (Tanna and Anatom islands) where it grows in the underwood of the humid forests, mainly along the coasts. The Snakeskin palm in habitat grows to about twenty feet tall, but much smaller in cultivation, with a trunk a foot and a half in diameter and when young is very difficult to distinguish from the Caryota zebrina. The leaves of C. ophiopelis are less glossy, a lighter green and thinner or finer, the leaflets less diamond shaped than Zebrina and mature trees would be much smaller than Zebrina. It will tolerate no cold, needs filtered light or shade, rich soil and ample water.
Caryota ophiopellis is a monoecious, monocarpic species (it does fructify only once then dies). Quite rare in cultivation, it arouses an increasing interest due to the unusual and showy coloration, in particular in the young plants. It requires a tropical or humid subtropical climate, a shady position during the young stage, slightly shaded when adult, and draining soils, slightly acidic to neutral, maintained humid. The starch contained in the stem, extracted with a special procedure and cooked to prepare a sort of bread, is still now utilized by the local populations.

Chains of Glory, Light Bulb Flower. This elegant plant is a rare species in plant collections. The white fragrant flowers are held in loose pendulous panicles, similar to Bridal Veil (Clerodendrum wallichii). The white flowers are very showy against dark green foliage. Flowering racemes hang down a foot and a half or more. Winter bloomer. It often has two flowering periods during the winter season.

Cannon ball Tree. Rare tree with a bizarre fruit that can be seen only in tropical botanic gardens and a few larger private gardens.
