FIG TREE

White Fig. Ficus virens found in India, southeast Asia, through Malaysia and into Northern Australia. It is locally known as Pilkhan or Manbornde. Like many figs, fruit are edible. This is a very massive tree in which the size of the crown can sometimes exceed the height of the tree. However, it will take many years and generations to grow to that size... It makes a great bonsai as most of the fig trees.
One of the most famous specimens of this tree is the Curtain Fig Tree of the Atherton Tableland, near Cairns, a popular tourist attraction.

Beer's Black Figs are medium sized with outstanding flavor. A reddish pink interior and a violet skin. Beers Black cultivar is somewhat similar to Violet de Bordeaux in overall flavor, and to some people has even better characteristics. LSU Purple fig is a very reliable, prolific producer of early to late delicious figs. One of the best figs to come along for some time. Excellent for containers, producing early figs as soon as growth starts. Very acclimated to the fluctuating weather of the South, does great in Virginia Beach. Zones 7-9. Has fruited well at our nursery (zone 7). Best to pick a few days after fruit turns black, wrinkles and elongates.
