Super Alphonso (Zill 36-8, also known as India) is a Zill breeding selection developed from a Zill-80 seedling, with possible Jakarta parentage. Despite the name, it does not resemble Alphonso in flavor - instead, it delivers a rich, complex taste with a subtle Indian spice character layered over classic sweet mango notes. The fruit is round to oval, similar to its maternal line, with smooth, fiberless flesh. Trees are known to be steady, heavy producers, making it a reliable performer. For best quality, fruit should be harvested mature green and allowed to ripen off the tree over 7-10 days, where it develops excellent flavor and texture. A promising variety with potential for both backyard growers and future commercial evaluation in Florida conditions.
