Daily Cat Lesson: Do Cats Really Hate Water?
🐾 Daily Cat Lesson: Do Cats Really Hate Water? 💦🐈
- 🐾 Myth: All cats hate water.
Not exactly. Many cats are fascinated by dripping faucets, fountains, sinks and even running showers. What they often dislike is getting their coat soaked. Wet fur becomes heavy, takes time to dry and can make a cat uncomfortable and cold. - 🐾 Myth: Cats don't need much water.
Cats naturally have a relatively low thirst drive. Their ancestors obtained much of their water from prey, which is one reason modern cats may not always drink as much as we'd expect. - 🐾 Wet food counts!
Wet cat food contains a lot of water and can contribute substantially to daily hydration. - 🐾 Why do some cats prefer running water?
Movement, sound and freshness may make flowing water more interesting. Some cats love fountains. Others couldn't care less and happily drink from a bowl. - 🐾 One bowl or several?
Try several fresh-water stations, especially in a multi-cat home. Some cats also prefer water placed away from their food and litter box.
And then there is the mysterious law of feline hydration:
Fresh water in an expensive bowl: maybe.
Your unattended glass of water: absolutely. 😼💧
