Very rare Yellow Pitaya. This cactus originates from Bolivia, Equador, Peru and Columbia. It's greatly known for it's sweet tasting fruit. Knobbed, yellow cactus fruit sharing some similarities with the Hylocereus dragon fruit (pitaya). Taste is said to be superior to most cactus fruits. The fruits are smaller than the common dragon fruit, and contain prominent spikes until ripening time, upon which the spikes drop off.

What to do with a Dragon fruit?

This variety is well-known because it originated in Florida and has been grown here since 1910. It has a good flavor, however, it is slightly fibrous and is succeptable to fungus. If you insist on "old haden" variety, this is it. The flesh has a full sweet flavor, and it is of good eating quality. The fruit is eye catching having a deep yellow base with a crimson blush. This variety originated in Coconut Grove, Florida in 1945 from a Haden seed. It has an excellent flavor, large size, and very little fiber. Madame Francis is from Haiti, and is the most popular and commonly grown mango in the country, seeing considerable commercial acreage. The fruit are slightly oblong-kidney shaped, medium sized, and turn solid yellow at maturity. The orange colored flesh contains a polyembryonic seed and has some fiber, which can range from minimal to high depending on the amount of nitrogen its receiving. The flavor is quite rich, sweet and wonderfully strong, with some spice notes but not particularly resinous. The trees are vigorous growers with open, spreading canopy. They require minimal stimulus to bloom and are an early season mango in south Florida, usually ripening from June to July. The tree has a vertical and dense canopy.

'Okrung' is an excellent Thai cultivar introduced to Florida in 1973. Thai-cultivar, green-yellow fruit eaten while green. The fruit is traditionally served in Thailand in combination with sticky rice. One of the most popular varieties in Thailand. The fruit is very sweet, with the highest sugar content of any mango tested in Florida. It has a strong Indo-Chinese flavor and is somewhat fibrous. The fruit are small, hand in clusters and drop off the tree when ripe.

Carambola variety Fwang Tong (Tung) - Dwarf variety with elongated fruit, 5 inches long, with long wings. Pale yellow skin and flesh. Very sweet and juicy. Flesh is firm with few seeds. Fruit ripe, when wing edges are still green. Eaten fresh, in salads, as garnishes, in drinks or preserved. Mature trees may survive light frost but young trees must be protected from frost and especially - wind. The plant will fruit in container even when in small size (2-3 ft). Season: August - March.
These plants are 1.5-2 year old seedlings and will take 2-3 years to fruit.
