How to turn Yellow Leaves Green with SUNSHINE SuperFood

How to turn Yellow Leaves Green with SUNSHINE SuperFood

Cooler weather can bring an unwelcome surprise to tropical gardens - yellow leaves with green veins!
This common problem is called chlorosis. It often happens when plants can't absorb enough iron and other essential nutrients.
As temperatures drop, roots become less active. Cold, wet soil makes it harder for tropical plants to take up nutrients, even when those nutrients are already present in the ground.
The result? Yellowing leaves, slower growth, and unhappy plants...

🌿 A quick boost for hungry plants

SUNSHINE SuperFood is a special blend of essential micronutrients and amino acids designed to help plants recover from nutrient deficiencies.
It contains iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, boron, and other important elements that plants need in small amounts to stay healthy.

But here's what makes SuperFood special.
Its micronutrients are combined with amino acids, making them easier for plants to use. Think of it as a ready-to-serve nutritional meal instead of raw ingredients!

And because you can spray it directly onto the leaves, plants can absorb nutrients without relying entirely on their roots.

🌿 More than just greener leaves!

SUNSHINE SuperFood helps support:
• Rich, healthy green foliage
• Stronger growth and healthier roots
• Better flowering and fruit development
• Recovery from micronutrient deficiencies
• Overall plant vigor

🌿 Easy to use!

Mix 5 ml of SUNSHINE SuperFood per gallon of water.
Spray the foliage and water the root ball with the solution once a month.
It's suitable for tropical plants, fruit trees, flowering shrubs, and houseplants.

💡 A note about Florida alkaline soil.

Cooler soil slows root activity and can reduce nutrient uptake, but in Florida, alkaline soil is another major reason iron becomes unavailable. Chlorosis has several possible causes. And severely chlorotic older leaves don't always turn green again; sometimes the best results appear in new growth.

Don't let your plants go hungry. Give them a little SUNSHINE, even when the weather cools down! 🌞

The Black Sheep Is WHITE! A Golden Penda Surprise

The Black Sheep Is WHITE! A Golden Penda Surprise.

You never know what surprises nature has in store when you grow plants from seed!
Something exciting happened at Top Tropicals this week. Among hundreds of brilliant golden flowers, we spotted something completely unexpected. A little seedling blooming creamy white!
The black sheep of the family. Except this odd sheep is WHITE!

• ⭐️ Golden fireworks with a surprise

Golden Penda (Xanthostemon chrysanthus) is one of our favorite Australian flowering trees. Its spectacular golden flowers look like miniature fireworks, with hundreds of long, glowing stamens. And they smell wonderful - sweet, almost like apple blossoms!
The tree is naturally compact in our Florida gardens, perfect for containers and small spaces. But what makes it especially fun to grow is how incredibly young it starts flowering.
At Top Tropicals, our seed-grown plants can bloom within their first year. Some are barely 3-4 inches tall, just a few months old, and already covered in flowers!

• 🌱 One seedling decided to be different

While admiring our latest batch of blooming seedlings, we noticed one little rebel. Instead of the usual brilliant yellow, its flowers were delicate ivory-white.
Same batch of seeds. Same growing conditions. But a different flower color!
That's the magic of growing plants from seed. Every seedling carries its own genetic combination, and occasionally an unexpected trait appears.
Sometimes these variations are simply interesting. Sometimes they become the beginning of a beautiful new cultivar!

• 🔬 Could this become a new variety?

White flowers aren't unknown in the genus Xanthostemon. Several Australian species, including X. verticillatus, naturally produce beautiful creamy-white blooms. - Australian National Botanic Gardens
An unusual seedlings have even given rise to named Golden Penda cultivars. But our little ivory-flowering X. chrysanthus is an exciting discovery of its own. Will the unusual color remain stable? Can we reproduce it through cuttings or seeds? That's what we're going to find out!
Now comes the fun part. We'll watch this little plant closely, see whether it continues producing ivory flowers, and experiment with propagation.
Will its offspring inherit the pale color? Will they return to golden yellow? Could we get something in between?
Purple or blue? Well, that's probably wishful thinking!
Seedlings don't necessarily inherit their parent's unusual characteristics, so there are no guarantees. But that's exactly what makes experimenting so fascinating.

• 🌿 The joy of growing from seed

Unlike flowering trees that make you wait years, Golden Penda gives us the opportunity to observe new generations surprisingly quickly.
And that's why we love growing plants from seed. Every little seedling is a possibility. Most grow up looking like their parents. Occasionally, one decides to break the rules.
Our little white sheep may or may not become a named cultivar someday. But it has already given us something wonderful - the excitement of discovery!
Want to grow your own golden fireworks? We still have a few rare Golden Penda plants available at Top Tropicals.
Who knows what surprises your garden might bring? 😯

Glory Bower: the fragrant pink cousin of Cashmere Bouquet with a hardy secret

💗 Glory Bower: the fragrant pink cousin of Cashmere Bouquet with a hardy secret

Big fragrant blooms, butterflies, and a tropical jungle in record time! Glory Bower (Clerodendrum bungei), also called Pink Cashmere Bouquet - is an equally ambitious pink cousin of Clerodendrum philippinum from our previous story of its fluffy white, carnation-scented flowers.
Both share a remarkable personality: fragrant flowers, lush foliage, vigorous growth, and an unstoppable desire to expand their territory.
But Glory Bower has a few surprises of its own!
During Florida’s brutal February 2026 freeze, Glory Bower was one of our survivors, bouncing back as an even thicker, lush flowering hedge - almost as if the cold had encouraged it to spread and bloom with renewed enthusiasm!

💐 Giant pink bouquets that butterflies love

Imagine big, rounded clusters of rosy-pink flowers, up to 6 inches across, rising above lush tropical foliage.
Each bouquet contains dozens of tiny, star-shaped blossoms that open gradually, creating a spectacular pink dome.
The fragrance is wonderfully sweet, attracting butterflies and other pollinators.
And the foliage is just as attractive! Large, dark green leaves, often tinged with deep purple, provide a dramatic contrast to the bright flowers.

💐 One plant, an entire fragrant hedge!

Want a lush, flowering privacy screen in record time? Glory Bower is an excellent choice!
This vigorous shrub spreads through underground suckers, producing new stems that quickly develop into a dense colony.
One little plant can become an impressive flowering thicket in just a couple of growing seasons!
But be warned: those wandering roots don't respect garden boundaries.
💡 Our advice: Plant it in an isolated corner where it can spread freely, or grow it in a large container to keep its ambitions under control.
- UF/IFAS - spreading behavior and Florida status

💐 Tropical beauty with surprising cold hardiness

Here's where Glory Bower really stands apart from its white-flowered cousin!
While many tropical shrubs struggle with freezing temperatures, Clerodendrum bungei can survive winters in USDA Zone 8!
A hard freeze may kill the aboveground stems, but established roots can survive and send up vigorous new shoots in spring.
A tropical-looking shrub that practically rebuilds itself after winter!

💐 Easy to grow, hard to contain!

✦ Light: Full sun to partial shade.
✦ Water: Regular moisture; some drought tolerance once established.
✦ Soil: Adaptable, but prefers good drainage.
✦ Hardiness: USDA Zones 8–10; may die back in winter.
✦ Growth: Fast, vigorous, spreading through root suckers.
✦ Pruning: Cut back to control size and encourage bushy growth.
✦ Containers: Excellent for keeping those wandering roots confined.

💐 Two Cashmere Bouquets, two personalities!

One offers fluffy white carnations, the other spectacular pink flower clusters.
Clerodendrum philippinum - Clerodendrum bungei - both bring wonderful fragrance to the garden - and both need a little discipline!
