Hygrophila difformis is easy to grow and as such it is a very popular plant for the tropical aquarium. It has very lacy leaves whose appearance is affected by water conditions. Left alone, it easily crosses the water surface and begins to assume its emersed form: the leaves are darker and harder, and the plant produces purple flowers.
