The higher the support the better, as the flowers can hang down for the best effect. As well as the brilliant floral display, the plant also has interesting foliage, with a twisting climbing tendril replacing on of its three compound leaves. This tendril is the plants climbing mechanism. It is one of the most spectacular flowering vines in cultivation. It is related to and quite similar to trumpet creeper and crossvine two vines native to the SE US which also are popular with hummingbirds. If you live where you can grow all three, you and your hummers will have reddish-orange trumpet-shaped flowers practically all year long. Toxic to animals. Similar plants:
