Oriental persimmon: Saijo, which means "the very best one" in Japanese. Very cold hardy cultivar. Small yellow elongated fruit. Sweet excellent flavor, ranked among the best by gourmets. Medium height tree. Bears consistently. Astringent cultivars have water-soluble tannins in the flesh of the fruit at maturity (harvest) and do not normally lose their astringency until soft and ripe. They are adapted better to cooler areas than non-astringent types. Learn more: Growing Persimmon trees.
