Well, well, well... it seems we have a new purrsonality around here! A few days ago, we discovered a mysterious little purrrson living under the TopTropicals office. Did a customer leave her behind? Or was she simply drawn to our PeopleCats paradise? Who can say! Either way, since she made her grand entrance from the underground, we decided to name her Persephone, after the Greek goddess and Queen of the Underworld.

Persephone has come a long way - she finally let us pet her, and now she's taken over the office desk! She even drools a little when she gets those precious head scratches. Persephone has officially joined our Nursery Team, adding her charm to Customer Service

Most PlantPeople are also PetPeople, and many of them are CatPeople - people who have PeopleCats!

Here @TopTropicals, we find that combination both fun and incredibly productive in the garden! Currently, we have over 30 cats across our two locations - each one rescued, with many of them coming from uncertain beginnings, lucky to have found their sweet home with us.

At TopTropicals Garden Center, we're proud to be a cat-friendly plant facility. Our cats play an integral role in our daily routine, showering us with love and even making us better people. Our team takes great care of them, with cat care being part of their daily tasks.

⬆️ PeopleCats.Garden Official Cat Feeding Policy

Updated whenever the cats decide it's outdated.
  • 🐾 1. Feeding schedule

  • ▫️Cats are to be fed when hungry, which, according to them, is always.
  • ▫️If a cat claims to be starving five minutes after eating - believe them. You're late.

  • 🐾 2. Approved food items

  • ▫️Gourmet kibble that costs more than your lunch
  • ▫️Wet food served at room temperature, on a ceramic dish
  • ▫️Treats (because they did a thing)
  • ▫️That expensive tuna you bought for yourself - it's theirs now

  • 🐾 3. Prohibited food items

  • ▫️Anything labeled "vet-approved"
  • ▫️Leftovers (unless you're trying to insult them)
  • ▫️Generic brand food (how dare you)

  • 🐾 4. Feeding etiquette

  • ▫️Do not make eye contact while they eat. You'll break the spell.
  • ▫️Food must be served with a verbal offering: "Here you go, dinner is served, Your Majesty."
  • ▫️If multiple cats are present, they all want what the other one got. Rotate plates. Begin again. Forever.

  • 🐾 5. Midnight snacks

  • ▫️Yes.
  • ▫️Don't ask.

  • 🐾 6. The "empty bowl" rule
  • ▫️If a bowl is 70% full, it's 100% empty.
  • ▫️Refill immediately. Apologize for the oversight.


🐾 7. Human consequences

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in:
  • ▫️Judgmental stares
  • ▫️Paw-swat to the face at 3 a.m.
  • ▫️Strategic hairball placement
  • ▫️Passive-aggressive purring near guests who like dogs

  • 🐈 March 17 isn't just about St. Patrick! It's also the feast day of St. Gertrude of Nivelles, the Patron Saint of Cats, Cat Lovers, Gardeners, and Travelers! While her feline connection only emerged in the 1980s - over 1,300 years after she lived - the idea has spread far and wide. Some trace it back to a 1981 Metropolitan Museum of Art catalog, which first linked St. Gertrude to cats.

  • 🐈 Gertrude, a 7th-century Benedictine abbess, was known for her kindness, hospitality, and yes - her love of cats! She cared for the monastery's feline friends, offering them food and affection. In her honor, Nivelles, Belgium, holds an annual Le Tour Sainte-Gertrude, a grand procession celebrating her legacy.

  • 🐈 Gardeners also look to St. Gertrude's feast day as the perfect time to start spring planting - because a beautiful, sunny March 17 is seen as a sign of a good growing season ahead! So, when you're decked out in green for St. Patrick's Day, give your furry friend an extra cuddle in honor of the original Cat Lady Saint!
