It has a compact habit and will grow prostrate on the ground or cling to a wall. It is the answer for anyone wanting that elusive combination: an evergreen climber with heavily scented flowers. The foliage is neat and unobtrusive, and makes a good background for the clusters of creamy white flowers that appear in mid-summer. It is particularly good for growing over an arch or arbour where the delicious perfume can be best appreciated.
Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Minima' (Dwarf Asiatic Jasmine) is a compact, low-growing cultivar distinguished by its dense mat-forming habit and small, glossy dark green leaves. Its slender creeping stems spread close to the ground, producing a thick carpet of foliage considerably lower and finer-textured than the typical form of the species. Small fragrant creamy-white flowers with yellowish centers may appear, but flowering is usually sparse and the cultivar is grown primarily for its foliage and compact growth.
'Minima' is particularly useful as a groundcover, for planting on slopes, between larger shrubs, or for cascading over low walls and container edges. Its restrained height and dense spreading habit make it especially suitable where the normal climbing growth of Trachelospermum asiaticum would be undesirable.
