Ruellia nudiflora (Violet Ruellia)

Ruellia nudiflora, commonly known as Violet Wild Petunia, is a hardy flowering perennial valued for its delicate lavender blooms, adaptability, and ability to thrive in challenging conditions.

Native to the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, this member of the acanthus family grows as a low herbaceous perennial with slender stems and narrow green leaves. It flowers freely throughout the warm season, producing a succession of lavender to violet funnel-shaped blooms with lighter throats that attract butterflies, native bees, and other beneficial insects.

This adaptable plant grows well in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soils, including sandy and rocky sites. Once established, it is remarkably drought tolerant and requires little maintenance. It can be used in wildflower meadows, native plant gardens, borders, or as a naturalized groundcover in warm climates.
