The genus honors Jacques Dalechamps, a 16th century French physician and botanist. This plant is related to Dalechampia dioscoreifolia which is an exotic vine with unusually looking flowers. This species is a very slow growing shrub under 3 ft. The stipules around small yellow flower centers of D. roezliana look like wings of an exotic butterfly. Leaves always look downwards. Rare in cultivation.
