Small, very rare shrub from the hills of Uruguay and southern Brazil. With most attractive, persistent, dark green, shiny leaves, it bears directly on the woody branches conspicuous clusters of small white flowers with pearly white, fleshy, waxy petals, but the main feature of which is the very long and prominent deep purple-red stamens. This shrub could prove hardy in the milder parts of the country otherwise a talking point for conservatory where it will be happy kept to 4 or 5 feet.
