Jasminum Rex (Royal Jasmine)
Botanical name: Jasminum Rex
Common name: Royal Jasmine
Family: Oleaceae
Origin: Thailand

Jasminum rex is a tropical jasmine valued for its exceptionally large, pure white flowers, often reaching about 3 inches across, which are among the largest in the genus. The plant produces abundant blooms in fall and early winter, often covering itself with clusters of flowers for several weeks. Despite the showy display, the flowers have little to no fragrance. Leaves are relatively large, and the overall growth is somewhat slow and manageable, making it suitable for limited spaces and container culture.
This species requires full sun for reliable flowering and well-drained soil, as it does not tolerate soggy conditions or standing moisture around the roots. Regular watering is needed, but the soil should dry slightly between applications. Growth becomes more vigorous once established, especially with feeding during active periods. Cold tolerance is limited, with best performance in USDA Zone 10 and warmer; even light frost may cause damage. Jasminum rex performs best in frost-free environments with good light and careful moisture control.
