Gold-Tooth Aloe is a small but robust shrub that can grow up to 2-5 feet in height. This Aloe species is native to South Africa and its vibrant flowers create a desirable addition to any garden. The blooms of Gold-Tooth Aloe leave quite an impression with its vinous flowers are a combination of red, crimson, and deep yellow shades. The plant can also attract butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden.
Gold-Tooth Aloe thrives in full sun, but can tolerate partial sun as long as it is provided moderate amounts of water. It is an excellent option for landscaping in warmer climates with USDA Zones of 9-11. The plant is tolerant of drought, heat and frost and is low maintenance once established. Though Gold-Tooth Aloe is quite small and non-invasive, its thick stems contain thorns and spiny leaves, so caution should be taken when planting and handling.
If you are growing your Gold-Tooth Aloe in a pot, it should be watered regularly and allowed to dry out in between. To keep your Aloe healthy, prune off any infected or dead leaves and water deeply at the base of the plant to encourage root growth. In addition, you may want to provide it with an occasional feeding of a water-soluble fertilizer during the summer months. Lastly, in colder climates, it is important to bring your Gold-Tooth Aloe inside during winter months and to keep it in a sunny, warm spot as frost can kill plants.
