Marina Rybka - Botanical researcher and encyclopedia editor, Top Tropicals

Marina Rybka has worked with tropical and subtropical plants for more than twenty years and is a core contributor to the Top Tropicals Online Plant Encyclopedia. She began systematically documenting plants more than 20 years ago, when the encyclopedia contained only about 500 entries, photographing unusual species and researching their identity long before automated image recognition tools existed. Today, the encyclopedia includes over 5,300 plant entries and more than 60,000 images, reflecting two decades of continuous documentation and verification.

Her work relied on manual visual comparison, botanical literature, and careful cross-checking of sources. Over time, she assembled a large private archive of plant photographs and research notes and carried out detailed identification and verification work for thousands of images, including the extensive photo archive created by Tatiana Anderson.

Marina continues to review and update botanical information, tracking taxonomic changes, synonymy, and accepted names. Her focus is on accuracy and long-term reliability, with particular attention to tropical plant diversity, cultivated hybrids, and plants that are rarely documented in standard gardening references.
