Family: Pinaceae
Keteleeria
Origin: Taiwan
Large shrub 5-10 ftFull sunSemi-shadeRegular waterOrnamental foliage

A rare genera of Chinese conifers with much the look and texture of firs - but proving to be much better adapted to the south. The tree reaches 40-50 m in height, developing an irregular oblate crown with large branches. The branchlets have a dense covering of stiff hairs. The bark is dull brown to dark gray-black, and is scaly or flaky. The leaves are needle-like. They are flat, stiff, and dark shiny green.

The plant prefers light (sandy) and medium (loamy) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade.

Family: Pinaceae
Dwarf Sand Pine, Sams Hoola Sand Pine
Can be used for bonsaiLarge shrub 5-10 ftFull sunModerate waterOrnamental foliageSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

Very interesting specimen pine with dwarf habit. It grows only to 5-6 ft tall. Can be grown in a pot as miniature pine tree or in the ground as a unique specimen plant. You can keep it as a real miniature Christmas tree year after year. Has excellent drought resistance once established. Avoid irrigation in the canopy. The dwarf variety shown on the pictures is grafted on regular pine; the large needles on the bottom (below graft) eventually die back.
