It inhabits coastal scrub, sandy sites, and forest margins, forming a dense, spreading shrub typically three to six feet tall. Its opposite, elliptic leaves are thick, velvety, and prominently veined, while young stems and flower buds bear conspicuous hairs. Showy flowers with five broad violet-purple petals and contrasting stamens appear over an extended season in warm climates.

Pleroma clavatum prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Regular watering during active growth encourages healthy foliage and flowering, while light pruning helps maintain a compact shape. Suitable for tropical and subtropical gardens or large containers, it is best grown in USDA Zones 10-11 and protected from frost.
