Crassothonna capensis (Ruby Necklace)

Crassothonna capensis is a trailing succulent species native to South Africa, appreciated for its soft, bead like foliage and graceful cascading habit. The slender, flexible stems carry small, rounded to slightly elongated fleshy leaves that range from fresh green to bluish green, often taking on reddish or purplish tones in strong light or cooler conditions. Its relaxed, spilling growth makes it especially suitable for hanging baskets, shallow bowls, and mixed succulent arrangements, where it forms loose, flowing mats rather than dense rosettes.

Crassothonna capensis grows best in bright light to light sun, with protection from intense midday heat in very hot climates. It requires a well drained, gritty soil mix and moderate watering, allowing the substrate to dry between waterings to avoid rot. Yellow, daisy like flowers may appear on thin stalks during the growing season, adding subtle seasonal interest.
