Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Minima' (also known as Dwarf Confederate Jasmine) is a low-growing vine or creeper native to South-East Asia and can be grown as a small shrub between 2-5 feet tall. It is recommended for USDA Zones 9-11. The plant prefers full sun and moderate water. The foliage is glossy and tiny with a subtle reddish hue when young. It produces beautiful sweet-smelling white or off-white flowers with yellow centers which will attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators.
It is an excellent choice for sunny spots in borders or containers and perfect to add texture and scent to the garden in a seemingly delicate way. However, it is very tough and can tolerate lots of dry heat and drought conditions. Once established, 'Minima' is also cold hardy, easily surviving down to 30s°F (zone 9) even for a few weeks.
This plant is suitable for growing in pots in areas with lower temperatures, bearing in mind ideal temperatures stay between 65-85°F. Provide the plant with enough room to spread as it can reach a large surface when full grown. Plant it in a well-draining, slightly acidic soil and make sure not to water it more than twice a week. Trim if needed to keep its shape. Fertilize the soil once a month during the growing season with an organic all-purpose fertilizer.
In summary, Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Minima' is a very decorative, easy to care for, cold tolerant and ultra-fragrant variety of Confederate Jasmine that provides soft, carpet of foliage and a blissful odor for your garden and includes delight of hummingbirds and butterflies.
