This small, tropical tree can grow to 10-20 feet tall and prefers full sun and moderate amounts of water. The Mature plants are cold hardy to at least 30s F for a short time. The plant is suitable for USDA Zone 9-11.

In terms of growing and plant care, Swartzia madagascariensis can tolerate a variety of soils. It needs plenty of water but should be allowed to dry out somewhat in between waterings. It can take bright full sunlight, but it will benefit from some protection from the hottest part of the day during the hottest months of the year. Prune in late winter or early spring, before new growth emerges. In cold regions, it's best to grow it in a pot and bring it indoors for winter or place it in an area with some protection from the cold or wind. If this is done, the plant should be placed in a bright room, with plenty of light, and watered regularly.
