Purshia stansburyana is a large, evergreen shrub that can reach up to 5-10 feet (1.5-3 m) in height and spread over the same area with a slightly wider width than height. The species is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant plant that prefers full sun and dry conditions. It is suitable for planting as a hedge, screen or accent for xeriscape gardens in USDA Zones 4-8.

Purshia stansburyana grows best in well-drained soils, in partial shade to full sun. It can tolerate more water than other Purshia species, but it still does best in drier regions. Mulch around the base of the shrub to help keep the soil moist and to protect it from extreme temperatures and weeds. To ensure optimal growth, fertilize once every couple of months with a balanced fertilizer.

In cold regions, Purshia stansburyana can be grown in a container and moved inside during the cold weather. Choose a container with good drainage and place it in a location with at least six hours of direct sunlight. Water the container when the soil begins to dry out, and fertilize once a month with a balanced fertilizer. When the temperatures begin to cool at the end of summer, bring the container indoors and place it in a sunny location for overwintering. Keep the pot in a cool, well-ventilated area, but not near a heating vent. Water sparingly, but don't let the soil dry out.

Purshia stansburyana is a beautiful and low-maintenance shrub with a fragrant white flower and feather-like seeds that will bring a unique look to any garden. With proper care and maintenance, the shrub can last for many years in both warm and cold regions.
