Justicia carnea, also known as the Brazilian Plume, is a small plant that can grow up to 2 to 5 ft tall. Native to South America, it is an attractive addition to many gardens, especially those in USDA Hardiness Zones 9-11. Its flowers, which range in color from pink to white and off-white, attract hummingbirds and butterflies alike.

When planted in full sun and given regular watering, the Brazilian Plume will thrive. It will also grow in semi-shade conditions, but this will cause the flowers to be less prolific and its growth more sparse. During the winter in colder regions, potting the Brazilian Plume is recommended, as moving it to a warm and sheltered spot for the winter will help minimize any damage due to frost and low temperatures.

When the Brazilian Plume is given the correct care, it will reward with a spectacular show from spring to fall. Its bright inflorescence will cover its deep green foliage, giving it a very tropical look. So why not add a touch of the tropics to your garden with the beautiful Brazilian Plume?
