As an epiphyte, Guzmania sp. likes semi-shade and regular watering; making it easy to take care of. In cold regions, pots should be placed in a sheltered position, away from cold winds and frost to avoid the risk of damage. Red or crimson, vinous flowers, will start to emerge around mid-summer on a short 2-5 ft. stem, surrounded by ornamental foliage.
