 Chamelaucium uncinatum, Darwinia uncinata
Family: Myrtaceae
Geraldton Waxflower
Origin: Western Australia
Large shrub 5-10 ftSmall shrub 2-5 ftFull sunModerate waterPink flowersWhite/off-white flowersBlue/lavender/purple flowersYellow/orange flowers

The flowers last for well over a week when cut. A number of different color forms have been selected. C.uncinatum is usually a medium to large shrub, typically 6-8 ft. high in cultivation and of fairly open habit. The leaves are narrow, up to 2" long and highly aromatic when crushed. The flowers appear in late winter and may last well into summer. They are circular in shape, usually 1" to 2" in diameter and light pink in color. As noted above, a number of different color forms do occur. Although native to a dry summer climate, Geraldton wax is reasonably hardy in more humid, temperate and sub-tropical areas but cannot be recommended in the humid tropics. The species is undoubtedly more adaptable to areas of dry summers. It requires a very well drained position, preferably in sandy soil in sun or semi shade. Once established, plants will tolerate periods of extended dryness. The plants respond well to pruning back by about one third annually. Watering Needs: Occasional deep watering in summer, drought resistant when established. Propagation: Semihardwood cuttings, difficult from seeds.
