Aristotelia chilensis is a small dioecious tree reaching 45 m in height and is evergreen. Its divided trunk has a smooth bark. The white flowers are unisexual and small. The small, purple-black berries are approximately 46 mm in diameter and contain 4-8 angled seeds.

Maqui berries are very rich in anthocyanins, which are purple pigments with very high antioxidant activity. At this point in time, Aristotelia chilensis is not cultivated. There is simply so much available in the wild, cultivation is unnecessary.
