Alocasia 'Antoro Velvet' is a distinctive, still-undescribed Alocasia from Borneo, sometimes circulated under the provisional name Alocasia chienlii. This tropical aroid in the Araceae family is known primarily from cultivation rather than as a formally described botanical species. It forms an upright clump with large, broadly heart-shaped leaves, often with strongly wavy margins. The foliage is dark green to nearly black, with a distinctive leathery, finely wrinkled surface that develops a striking metallic sheen in reflected light. The undersides are slightly paler, sometimes with a purplish cast, and bear scattered fine hairs. Its unusual dark foliage and sculptural appearance have made 'Antoro Velvet' a desirable collector's plant, now propagated and distributed mainly in cultivation.

Alocasia 'Antoro Velvet' grows best in bright filtered light, warm temperatures, and high humidity. A loose, fertile, well-drained aroid mix should be kept evenly moist during active growth but never waterlogged. Protect the foliage from harsh direct sun and cold drafts. This tropical plant is best suited to USDA Zones 10b-11 outdoors and is more commonly grown as a container or indoor specimen elsewhere. Like other Alocasia, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and should not be eaten.
