Norantea guianensis is native to the West Indies and is a large shrub or creeper that can grow up to 5-10 ft in height. It can tolerate full sun and regular watering. The inflorescence is made up of beautiful, showy, crimson and vinous flowers with yellow or orange on the outside of the petals. This plant is known to attract butterflies and hummingbirds and will thrive in USDA zone 9-11.
When growing Norantea guianensis in cold regions, it is important to note that this plant is best grown in a pot and should be brought inside during the winter months to protect from frost. When growing in a pot, the soil should be kept slightly moist and the plant should be fertilized lightly in the spring. It is also important to give the plant adequate sunlight or artificial lighting and to make sure the surrounding temperature is not too warm as Norantea guianensis won't do well in humidity.
