Pyrus pyrifolia cultivar
 Pyrus sp.
Family: Rosaceae
Southern Pear
Small tree 10-20 ftRegular waterWhite/off-white flowersDeciduousEdibleSubtropical, cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time

Vigorous tree with upright growth. Very juicy fresh. Low chilling requirements, between 100 and 200 hours. For best results, plant two different varieties for cross pollination.

Pear trees can reach a height of 25 feet or more and grow in any fertile, well-drained soil, in full sun. The fruit grows on long-lived spurs and is spherical to typically pear-shaped.

The fruit is crisp-fleshed similar to Asian Pear and is ready to eat when picked. Some cultivars will improve in quality when stored in a cool dark place. They can be eating as-is, canned, used for preserves.
