Megaskepasma erythrochlamys (Brazilian Plume)

The plant will reach its full size (is a large shrub 5-10 ft tall) in the garden, under full sun or in semi-shade, with regular water. It will bloom constantly, resulting in a profusion of delicate, almost-bicolor flowers, in deep pink, attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. The Brazilian Red Cloak is cold hardy at least to 30s F for a short time, when grown in USDA Zone 9-11.

Growing it in a pot in cold regions or in harsh winter climates should be done with extreme care, given its frost tenderness. Make sure to give it a light sheltered spot, protect it from freezing winds, and, if temperatures are below 35F, bring it indoors or in a greenhouse with frost protection if necessary. In cold winter regions, if growing in a pot, use a large pot, as the roots need enough space. If necessary, mulch the pot as well, to keep the soil as warm as possible. If in a very cold climate, you can have these plants in a pot just for the display of flowers during the winter months, and then store the shrubs and replant them the following spring.
