Crossandra infundibuliformis is a tropical, evergreen, shrubby plant native to India and Malaya. Very rare variety - the turquoise color is extremely rare in the plant world. It has deep green, oval-shaped leaves that are about two inches long and spikes of yellow, lavender or red, funnel-shaped flowers with prominent bracts. Its height can range from 6 inches to 3 feet depending on the variety.
Full sun is preferred and it is best grown in USDA Zone 9-11. It is important to keep the soil damp but not overly soggy and to fertilize monthly with a balanced fertilizer from March-October. Pruning should be done regularly to achieve a desired shape. If growing in a cold region, the plants should be grown in a pot and moved indoors during winters with minimum temperatures of 55°F.
Crossandra infundibuliformis is a unique and attractive addition to any garden. Its unusual green flowers, combined with its other colors such as blue, lavender and purple, make it attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. It is also quite easy to take care of as it is tolerant to most soil types and is also resistant to wind. If grown in areas with frost, it will need a sheltered position as its flowers and leaves can be damaged from frost.
