Ixora lobbii (Glossy Pink Ixora)

Ixora lobbii is a tropical evergreen shrub in the Rubiaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. It develops a compact to moderately spreading habit with opposite, glossy green leaves and dense terminal clusters of small tubular flowers. The flowers are typically pink to deep rosy pink, with four spreading lobes forming a star-shaped face, and attract butterflies and other pollinators. Like other Ixora species, it can flower repeatedly through much of the year in warm tropical conditions. Its relatively compact growth and colorful blooms make it useful for borders, low hedges, tropical mixed plantings, and containers.

Ixora lobbii grows best in bright light to full sun, although some protection from intense afternoon sun can be beneficial in very hot climates. It prefers fertile, acidic, well-drained soil with regular moisture and performs poorly in alkaline conditions, where iron and manganese deficiencies may cause chlorotic foliage. It is primarily suited to USDA Zones 10-11 and should be protected from frost. Container plants benefit from an acidic potting mix, even moisture, and regular feeding during active growth. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain a dense, branching form without removing excessive developing flower buds.
