| Schinus polygamus Family: Anacardiaceae Chilean pepper-tree Origin: Chile ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This pepper tree or shrub differs significantly from the other Pepper Trees: It has spines on the ends of the shoots, and the leaves are not pinnate but simple and only about an inch long. When crushed they do not have a strong odor. The tree can have both unisexual and bisexual flowers, but a given tree is normally male or female. The very small greenish-white flowers make a fine display in summer and are followed by clusters of dark purple peppercorns. The fruit, and a resin obtained from the fruit, is antirheumatic. |
