Sansevieria gracilis, popularly known as Snake Plant, is native to Eastern Africa and belongs to the Asparagaceae family. This small plant grows to 2-5 feet and is characterized by its fragrant, white or off-white flowers. The flowers are produced in clusters which are usually solitary, or usually two axillary clusters of 3-4 flowers. It is also characterized by its long, sword-shaped leaves that may have a thorny or spiny edge.

The Snake Plant is drought-tolerant and care-free. It requires full sun or semi-shade, and moderate water. In cold regions, it is best grown in a pot. Soil should be reasonably porous, and once the Snake Plant is established, it doesn't need much water. It can take some shade but prefers full sun. When exposed to bright light, the plant leaves will turn green. It is very hardy and can survive with little care.

Sansevieria gracilis can be propagated by division or from seed and will flower from April to August. It is hardy to USDA Zone 9-11. Fertilize occasionally and remove withered flowers to encourage more blooms. The Snake Plant is relatively pest-free and is an excellent choice for those looking for an easy-care houseplant.
