Pleroma heteromallum (Glory bush), native to Brazil, is a large shrub growing between 5 and 10 feet tall. This Tibouchina variety prefers full sun, but can also thrive in part sun or semi-shade. It requires moderate water and will allow the soil to dry out between waterings. The attractive velvety leaves are up to 10 inches in diameter and sometimes turn orange or red near the base of the trunk. During the months of summer, the bush is covered with fragrant blue, lavender, and purple flowers that will attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

In warm growing regions, the Pleroma heteromallum will be cold hardy at least to 30°F for a short time. It can be grown outdoors in USDA Zones 10 to 11. In cold regions, it should be grown in a container and overwintered indoors. Plant in a pot that has good drainage and is large enough for the mature size of the plant. Soil should be well-draining potting mix with plenty of organic matter. Select a pot that also has bottom drainage holes. Provide a warm location indoors with bright but indirect sunlight and keep the soil slightly moist during the winter.

The Pleroma heteromallum is also a great seaside and salt tolerant plant, making it a great choice for coastal gardens.
