| Magnolia sirindhorniae, Magnolia ballonii Family: Magnoliaceae Magnolia Origin: China ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is one of the hardiest tropical magnolias. It is very similar to the popular Magnolia x Alba, although it is much more cold tolerant. If you have cool winters, this species is a better choice than magnolia x Alba which is somewhat cold sensitive. Flower has 3" long and narrow petals, off-white to light cream/ivory in color. Fragrance is very strong. The plant growth habit is somewhat similar to Magnolia champaca, but it is much faster growing and more vigorous plant. Similar-looking flowers: Magnolia baillonii (Michelia baillonii). Leaves of this species have rounded tips, unlike some other related magnolias (M. Alba, M. champaca) which are normally pointed.
